An introduction from the Head
Our history helps explain our name and why we are proud to keep it. We were founded in 1934 by Emma Freeston, in Westminster, specifically to support women applying to Oxbridge. She was at the forefront of her era in terms of inclusion and academic excellence, and we aim to emulate her. We offer tailored educational programmes designed around the needs of the individual student. We are non-selective and welcome students from diverse backgrounds with a range of academic abilities, which puts our superb A Level Results into context.
Private Sixth Form College in the Heart of London
Westminster Tutors is a private sixth form college in the heart of London. We can be found on Old Brompton Road, which is only a few minutes’ walk from South Kensington underground station on the Circle, District and Piccadilly lines. Our location in central London means we are just around the corner from the V&A, Science and Natural History Museums as well as the Royal College of Music, Institut Français, Royal Geographic Institute and many other prestigious organisations.
At Westminster Tutors, we teach all of our courses either one-to-one or in very small groups. A typical sixth form A level student would study three subjects over the course of two years, although we often admit ambitious students who are studying a fourth subject or an EPQ. Students also join us to retake their A levels over one year or six months, going on to achieve results which lead to exceptional university destinations. We also offer bespoke GCSE courses and retakes, which we can sometimes run alongside a student’s sixth form studies.
In addition to our courses for enrolled students at the college, we offer private tuition and Oxbridge preparation for students at other schools who wish to enhance their grades and UCAS applications with help from our expert tutors.
Every year our A level students’ results are consistently high, reflecting both the hard work they put into their studies and the expertise of our teachers. In 2020, 68% of all A level grades were A*-A while 92% were A*-B, and we expect our results to be even stronger this year. The most recent DfE A level performance tables put us well ahead of our nearest competitors. We take particular pride in our results as we are a non-selective college, and our students make exceptional progress from their starting points. Students on our A level retake courses perform equally well: last year they improved by an average of 2.4 grades.
